English teacher Mr. Kenealy gets set to put in grades. Students and teachers discuss first quarter progress reports

On September 21, progress reports came out to all students and their households. While some students have said they don’t worry about progress reports, others seemed a bit nervous because they were failing at least one too many classes and were not getting the help that they needed.

“I wasn’t happy, but I was not disappointed either because I felt as though it was not the end of the world,¨ Sarah Muehlberg said.

Although Muehlberg didn’t have any trouble with report cards coming out, a lot of other students think that report cards were rushed and also held the opinion that they should not have been released as early as they were.

“I don’t know how to feel, but I do feel that progress reports were rushed,” said student Winter Brooks.

Not only did the students have a lot to state about progress reports, but so did some staff. For instance, while some were excited for them to come out, other teachers also felt they came out too early.

“Progress reports were sent out too early, which didn’t give us any time to grade a little bit of anything, and it was overwhelming to grade things,” English teacher Mr. Surlak said.

Considering students expressing the teachers giving too much work, the popular majority of the school’s first progress report was a success.

“My sophomore schedule is excellent. I like all my classes; my progress report was straight A’s. One of my teachers assigns too much work, and it’s the only class I honestly have somewhat of a problem in,” said - Sophomore Joseph Valentine.

Most students at Crete-Monee love their teachers and schedules, and seniors are ready to finish their last year and transition to college.

“The start of senior year has been cool, doing all I can sports-wise to get it all over with. [It has] been a little overwhelming because I’m ready to get it over with,” said senior Tylin Brefford.

Some students want to change some things on their schedule and need to improve their grades.

“My start of the school year has been good, with some teachers and staff liking everything. My sophomore schedule is all right,” said sophomore Yuri Nooner.

First-year students are transitioning from middle to high school and enjoying their freshman-year schedule. They had an excellent progress report to start the year with great new teachers.

“My first year has been good. I liked the teachers my first four weeks were cool. The teachers have been open to me, and the work has been cool. I had straight B’s except for one C, but I feel I’ve been doing good in all my classes,” said freshman Joseph Alexander.
