The recent e-learning days in the past few weeks have made some students at CMHS upset. Students wonder if the school will learn even more in the future.
Some of the students feel that the reason for the e-learning day was not that serious and feel as if the school should have stayed open despite the harsh weather conditions; opinions such as this can lead to students being angry, distressed, etc.
“I was very stressed out, easily agitated, and often distracted, which made it very hard to get my work done,” Mira Garcia said.
Friends are a big part of school as a subject. Some students don’t enjoy anything except getting to see their friends, so getting separated from the people they are closest with can be mentally draining.
“I missed my friends most of the time. School is the only place I can see my friends,” Norris described.
When students are at school, they are forced to stay awake and do their work before the deadline, while at home, teachers have no control over what students do.
“I was in bed the whole time,” explained Garcia
“I like regular school because I get to see my friends and teachers, it’s overall not as fun,” said Norris
The reason why they would choose traditional school instead of online school though could have more to do with their wanting to take responsibility for their work, and feeling like they don’t accomplish anything at home.
“I got some work done but not all of it, there isn’t any obligation when students are doing e-learning, e-learning days don’t give you the full experience of school,” Norris explained
So based on the weather, it is unknown if CMHS is going to enforce another e-learning day, but students are skeptical.
“I don’t think there is going to be another e-learning day because of the amount of e-learning days already used but if there’s another snowstorm, then there probably will be,” said Garcia
But it could also be a good thing that e-learning is present in society now, learning can be brought to students when they don’t have the ability to learn on school days that were canceled.
“We need to bring learning to people instead of people to learning.” - Elliot Masie
