The idea of half days was created to give teachers extra time to grade and schedule for future plans. But the question is; Should we continue having half days each week?

“We would have more time to plan our activities and do our work, personally it provided me extra room to have more time to myself,” said senior Addison Gross.

Half days have always been positive in my eyes. It keeps me wanting to come to school because thinking about a straight 5 days with no break in between makes it less appealing to show up. Lack of motivation if you will.

“As a senior, there's a lot going on, and we don't want to overwhelm ourselves and half days are very much pick-me-up days to get stuff done, '' said senior Payton Liggins.

“Having half days in the middle of the week helped keep me in the mood for school and wanting to use it to actually be productive,” said Gross.

As a senior myself, I agree with the seniors here at Crete. Half days can be very beneficial for students. Allowing us to refresh and get our minds ready for the new day and the rest of the week.

“I think this helps not only us but the staff too because we both get time, it just makes sense to have them,” said Gross.

“If I had a half day I could reflect on my day and figure out how to make my next day better," said senior ImaniBarnette.

Everyone would love a free ‘me’ day.

“Some people have jobs so if possible we can take an earlier shift, we also have a lot of homework to get done, some of us have siblings, and we have our own personal things to take care of which takes up a handful of time," said ImaniBarnette.

“Half days are positive because we can get our work done and be able to relax the rest of the day, especially when they are in the middle of the week,” said Liggins.

Preferably having them on Wednesdays gives us all time to catch up on work from Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the rest of the week.

“Applying to colleges, being involved, half days just continue to give me the strength to keep going, and I do believe everyone needs that break for themselves,” said Liggins.

Seeing that most people prefer half days once a week should signify that students need a break. Half days would still allow us to receive work and get situated in the middle of the week. Giving us the opportunity to have some alone time. I think consideration of this idea would be beneficial to all parties.
