The class of 2024 had It hard. In 2020, when Covid first hit, students’ mental health and social skills were affected.

“I got my first D virtually,” said senior Mikayla McNutt.
That is an example of how students are only sometimes virtual learners. Some students must be in a classroom to learn and not get distracted.
“There’s another variant coming out, and people are scared,” said senior Ebony Caldwell.
There have been rumors on social media and other platforms that another virus was coming out. Of course, everyone else will be upset if another virus breaks out, but it won’t be very pleasant if that happens to the upcoming high school graduates.
“Some teachers said, why are you getting It wrong? Just look it up,” said McNutt.
Not only did students give up and get discouraged with e-learning, but so did teachers.
“It cut off my social abilities,” said senior Tye Morgan.
Because students were so used to having those daily interactions and conversations with their friends, many students became closed off to themselves during e-learning.
“We were supposed to go on the Washington D.C trip,” said senior Kimora Brodanex.
Several students graduating from the 8th grade were looking forward to that trip. That was on nearly everyone’s bucket list; students also had to pay a deposit or the entire thing to secure their spot.
“I feel like we did not get our whole high school experience; we missed out on our freshman year,” said Caldwell.
Since students missed their first day of high school that year, it could have affected their mental health since your first day of high school is something that students think about often. But that was snatched away with e-learning.
“The whole ‘freshman’ year, I went through a whole different phase in my life, and it trailed with me through my high school years,” said Morgan.
Students whose freshman year was virtual went through a lot, and students will never be able to get that year back. It gave students a different outlook and perspective on life because COVID-19 was a tragic event that damaged students’ high school years.
