The team stands for a picture after their first practice on the new field.

For players like senior outfielder Keyshon James, he is getting prepared for the long season ahead. ”I go to the gym every day and try to practice as much as I can," James said.

He focuses on working out and also on staying on a routine on game days, eating light, and stretching to stay safe.

His hard work has helped him do well in the field, where he loves seeing the whole field and making plays, and shows off the leadership skills after all the hard work during the offseason. The team’s bond has been really important this year. James has been close with his teammates since his freshman year.

”We’ve been working together for a long time, and that connection really shows on the field," James said.

For him, baseball isn’t about stats—it’s also about inspiring younger players like sophomores and juniors. Keyshon James hopes to have a batting average of .400 this season while helping them grow.

Junior outfielder Bryce Milburn brings his own approach to success. He trains all year, starting in August. Keeps a consistent hitting routine. His pregame routine consists of listening to music and staying calm.

"At first, the team felt a little divided. Over the weeks, they’ve grown closer,” Milburn said.

Milburn also draws inspiration from his brother's championship team. His personal goal is to hit a batting average of .300 and earn a starting position. He’s equally focused on growing as a team player for Crete-Monee.

Senior outfielder Walter Johnson adds another perspective, emphasizing teamwork and mental focus.

"I stay calm, keep a head, and listen to my teammates and coaches," Johnson said.

Though the season hadn’t officially started when he spoke, he was already excited about what the Crete-Monee team could achieve. Johnson values outfield play and hopes to help the team win as many games as possible while performing well individually.

For Crete-Monee, the season isn’t about wins—it’s about preparation, perseverance, and building connections that last beyond the team. Each player, from Keyshon James to Bryce Milburn, to Walter Johnson, has contributed to helping the team improve chemistry and also skills, leadership, and hopes to have great memories, and going into this season with high hopes of doing well overall as a team.
