Senior Bren Milburn discussed the World Series and who he thought was going to win before game five.
“[For the] World Series, I got the Dodgers; they are one of my top three teams, and I’ve been following them the whole year, so I got the Dodgers,” Milburn said.
He also stated the reason why he believes they would win the series.
“Dodgers spent a lot of money in the offseason to pick up two big names Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani, and I believe they added a pretty good arsenal to the team,” Milburn said.
He also explained why the Yankees would inevitably lose the World Series.
“I think the biggest reason is coaching and their best player (Aaron Judge) not showing up when they need him. And putting Nestor Cortes Jr. (Yankees starting pitcher) in the game versus Freddie Freeman with bases loaded (lefty) when he has a crazy stat line in that situation is bad coaching.”
He believed it would be different when the Yankees returned to New York.
“I think the Yankees will at least win one of the games because they are a great team. They have players like Juan Soto that will prevail, and if they have Gerrit Cole pitching for them, I think it will be a good game for them,” Milburn said
History teacher Mr. Zawacki predicted the Dodgers winning the World Series.
“I had the Dodgers winning, but I really wanted the Yankees to win in six,” Zawacki said.
He also gave reasons why he thought the Dodgers were going to win.
“I think the amount of talent the Dodgers have on payroll, like paying Ohtani later on in his career, opens up more opportunities to get star talent on the team. They have a good pitching rotation, solid bullpen, amazing starting lineup on the hitting side, but the Yankees have the same, so I’m hopeful that they pull it out, but the Dodgers are a super talented team,” Zawacki said.
He also wondered who could push the Yankees over the edge.
“If I had to take a guess, I would say Juan Soto, he and Gerrit Cole can push them, and you have guys like Aaron Judge, of course, and Rizzo because I’m a Chicago guy, and you have a solid shortstop in Anthony Volpe,” Zawacki said.
