The Crete basketball team’s season has been anything but predictable. At times, the squad has displayed strong teamwork and clear potential, showing what they’re capable of when everything clicks.

However, injuries and tough losses have made it challenging to maintain steady momentum. Even with these obstacles, the players continue to push forward, using each game as an opportunity to grow and sharpen their skills. As the playoffs approach, their focus remains on building consistency and finishing the season on a strong note.
“The season has been going ok. We have good days, and we have bad days, but that's all a part of basketball,” said Uriel Chapman. “We have been beating some good teams, we beat Rich Township in a double overtime game ending the game 56-54. But we have been on a bad losing streak, losing to Kankakee, Bloom, Thornwood, and Thornton, putting our record to 12-14 and conference 3-7. We are trying to find a good placement with everyone, and just trying to see what works with us and what fits with us, and get ready for the playoffs.”
In the weeks following senior night, the path to the postseason has become more complicated than expected. A series of setbacks disrupted the team’s rhythm and put added pressure on the roster. With momentum swinging in the wrong direction, players have had to dig deeper and adjust their mindset. As the playoffs draw near, the team knows it must regroup quickly and refocus on the details that will make the difference when it matters most.
“The basketball season has been up and down,” senior Isaiah Lovett said. “We have good moments, then take steps back. Recently, we have been in some trouble after senior night. A couple of players got injured, and one of our important players quit due to things outside of basketball, and we just recently lost to Bloom by a lot.”
Lovett’s comments highlight how injuries and personal situations have significantly impacted the team’s recent performance, creating a tougher path toward the playoffs and adding pressure to the roster. Facing these difficulties has required the team to adapt on short notice and stay mentally strong. With the postseason approaching, regrouping and finding stability has become more important than ever.
Even with setbacks, younger players are gaining experience and looking ahead with confidence. Despite the hardships, younger players are looking ahead with optimism.
“The season hasn’t been what we planned,” Tyler Fears said. “It’s win or go home, and we’re trying to prove that Crete will be something this year. The season has been great watching the seniors play and getting to know everyone. We are now worried about the playoffs because that's win or go home and we are not trying to go home.”
Fears’ mindset reflects the team's determination to prove itself when it matters most. As the playoffs approach, the Warriors hope their perseverance and lessons learned throughout the season will lead to success when the pressure is highest.
