Many schools use school spirit as a way to show pride in their school and make school just a little more fun through various activities.

Recently a homecoming school spirit week was held (Sept. 26th — Sept. 30th) and this year we had seen an influx of students participating.

“This week has been a really good turnout [for spirit week]” stated Crete-Monee senior Christopher Smith. “I’m very proud of the participation we’ve seen.”

Smith also brought up the recent popularity of videos of spirit week themes posted on the popular social media app TikTok. Students Gabrielle Owusu and Keilani Haddon are behind some popular videos encouraging students to show their school spirit.

“Recently we’ve had more school spirit, the TikToks made it so I wanted to participate more,” Smith said.

“It’s participating in the fun opportunities presented for us and showing your school pride,” said senior student Delaney Langan.

A big part to see especially in sports games is the school spirit themes created for the games by the students. These themes create a fun way to enjoy these games some students normally wouldn’t.

“We have many opportunities for activities that many other schools don’t have. We are lucky to be able to do the things we enjoy,” Smith said.
