Esports will bring new chances and opportunities to any students or teachers in the school.

“There was a highly competitive interest among students, so we wanted to start an official Esports team to compete with other schools starting their programs,” Mr. Posey said.

"Congratulations to the Crete-Monee Esports team for their performance at their Oak Lawn Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 10). Omar Romo took first place again in the FC 24 tournament after his opponent from Shepard foreited the finals match when Omar scored 5-0. Pedro Vitela took third place and Alex McClure took fourth place, making the tournament dominated by Crete-Monee players. Chance Evans took third place in the Super Mario Smash Brothers Solos tournament," as posted by Club Sponsor Mr. Posey

Esports began with the coaches showing who they truly are from their childhood and how they wanted to make a difference in the school. They have decided to reach out to their students through gaming, something most students enjoy.

“Ever since I was younger, I’ve always really liked to game but when I started teaching, I always wanted to be involved with the school,” Mr. Grecek said.

Some games can help students get into the swing of how Esports will operate so that the club can make adjustments toward their students’ interests and improve their decisions for games.

“They are trying to test the waters of this club, and once they understand that we can branch off, they will add more,” Curtis Graham said.

Games can prove that students and teachers find more comfort in gaming than other activities. They can also show what children are more interested in than others.

“Most of the Population likes Super Smash Bros the most,” Graham said.

Esports can become a safe spot for you to be yourself and play with your friends or meet up with new people who may have the same likings that you have.

“It feels like a safer space to play video games with your friends,” Graham said.

Some games are fighting, others are solving, and the rest are solving problems, but they all connect when it comes to working together as a team.

“Make new friends, get better at the games you want, and improve your skills over time,” Graham said.

Students can make more achievements in school and show that they can belong to something in their life.

“The games that these kids play often, they can easily get competitive; it’s another reason for students to get involved and show school spirit,” Mr. Posey said.

Esports can show that it is best to start young to learn another field that might have what you desire in your future.

“You can only get better if you start as a freshman, and if you already like the game, it helps to stay at school and play it,” Mr. Grecek said.

Esports can help you lead a path you want to follow, proving to family or friends that you can make your own choices.
