Gang Violence

Gang violence is an ongoing war that has been occurring for decades. We need to be a part of the plan to fix it because it is killing our youth and tearing families apart.

Gangs are one of the biggest causes of death throughout the world. Kids are becoming active in gang activities and are sent to do terrible things.

“I’ve been around gangs all my life. You have to stay aware of your surroundings,” said Christ the King High School student,Nicolas Rose, "being involved in a gang at a young age will not benefit anybody at all. It brings nothing but negativity on someone’s life."

Violence occurs everywhere but gang violence is a big reason to the madness that occurs. People turn to violence because of hate, jealousy, or miscommunication and it gives people a motive to go out and do harm.

“Social media can also be a part of the reason because someone could post disrespectful things about a deceased person to mock their deaths,” said sophomore Kaliah Richards.

According to USAtoday.com, Illinois is ranked 34 in gun violence deaths and has one the highest gang infested cities in america.

Children are starting to get involved at a young age because they are influenced by people older than them who convince them to join. Most kids should not have to do that, but because they are exposed to so much at a young age, they will soon develop bad habits, attitudes, and a horrible personality.

“Kids should start gaining knowledge on how gangs can have negative impacts on them,” said sophomore Xavier Slayton.

Children killing others from different sets or different gangs, which causes them to hate each other has an impact on gang violence.

Some kids do not understand that they are slowly killing themselves when they go out and follow up behind some of the older people in gangs. They could go out and potentially kill somebody or themselves.
