The Crete-Monee High School girls’ soccer team enjoyed their time together off and on the field, making memories and strengthening their bond as teammates. Connecting off the field helped improve the team chemistry in games and overall made the team feel more connected. They also reached goals they set for themselves earlier in the season and had good memories on the field as well.

One fun memory the team had this season was getting ice cream after some hard games they played in a weekend tournament against non-conference competition. Many seniors said this was their favorite moment from the season when reflecting during their Senior Night on April twenty-eighth. The underclassman on the team also enjoyed this moment the team had shared.
“My favorite moment from the season was when we went to Dairy Queen and got free cones,” said sophomore center-mid Yanely Blas.
The culture of the girls’ soccer program at Crete is one of strong team chemistry and sisterhood. The warriors value their relationships with their teammates and think the team is very tight-knit.
“I think our team is one of the closest teams out of all the sports here at Crete-Monee,” said sophomore forward Pauline Magnaye.
The team also had meaningful memories on the field throughout the season, and Senior Night was a prime example of that. The Warriors pulled out a big win against Momence, the ending score being 3-1, and each goal had been meaningful for the players.
“My favorite memory was scoring on my sister’s senior night. I scored two goals,” forward Pauline said.
Many of the program’s players set goals for themselves going into this season; whether that was to improve their stats from last year or to score some goals, they all worked hard to meet them.
“I wanted to score, and I did. I locked in during the drills Coach had us doing at practice to reach this goal,” said midfielder Yanely, who scored the second goal on Senior Night.
Some players wanted to reach as high as they did the year before and get outside of their comfort zone, making plays less typical for their position. The team has strong leaders, and their captains actively strive to better themselves and their teammates.
“My goals this year were to become captain again and to be able to get one goal for my senior season even though I’m a defender. I reached my goals by trying to lead by example and guide our team in the right direction, being fully committed to the team, and showing up every day no matter what,” senior Kaylee Mazur said
