The football stadium officially opened with its ribbon-cutting held on Sept. 12, and in addition, celebrated senior night for the band, color guard, cheer, dance team, NJROTC, and football team.
As it was the first game of the season, the night was filled with packed stands, free shirts for students, food, and a 49-6 win over Thornton.
The new field features a new design with new bleachers, bathrooms, and a concession stand. Students couldn’t wait for the day to come. Now, alumni, current students, staff, and the community can enjoy the field.
Sophomore Kyla Souza said she was having fun, and so were the people around her. She enjoyed the halftime show from the band, particularly her favorite routine, "That’s What I Like" by Bruno Mars.
“I was impressed with the number of people who went and dressed up with the theme,” Souza said. She said it’s important to come to football games because you get to see your friends and interact with the whole school.
“The player that stood out to me the most was #63, just because he’s my friend, and I was there to support him. Overall, the team performed really well,” said Souza.
Souza said she didn’t try any of the concession snacks, but her friends said they were good. She said it was great having the football season start again. Also, she loves the new stadium, especially the bleachers, because they're so high that nothing can fall under them.
Senior Kiamara Vaughn said the atmosphere was good, with a lot of positive energy. She said her favorite part was the Warriors winning the game.
“A highlight was when the team worked well together to win the game, and the team did very well,” said Vaughn. She said the students were chanting and were engaging with one another.
Vaughn said the football games allow students to get together and engage with one another without being concerned with school or drama.
Senior Melissa Powell said her favorite moment of the night was performing with her fellow members of the color guard.
“It was very sad knowing this is going to be my last football season, but I’m happy knowing I at least got to be on the new field before I left,” Powell said.
Powell said the football team did a great job in leading the win. She was also happy to have experienced the field as a senior, finding it satisfying.
