The weather this past January has had a mind of its own. With icy roads and lots of snow everywhere, many people were affected by the dramatic drop in temperature and the insane amount of snow this winter brought.

Crete-Monee High School was affected by the levels of snow and the very low climate and wasn’t prepared for what the weather would cause. As students returned to school, they noticed the classrooms were unusually cold.

“Teachers didn’t know how to help with this situation, and they didn’t know what to do,” said Gerard Flemming. When asked how the students dealt with the drop in temperature, they said they wore their coats all day.

“I think the school doesn’t know what to do, but I know I wanted to go home! As students went through the day in cold classrooms, they found a way to cope with the cold,” freshman Monte Calvin said.

Putting warmer clothing on and bringing other things to help keep warm were some things students did to fight the dramatic drop in weather.

“I brought a big blanket and still had my coat on because it was that cold, but it helped keep me comfortable,” Dominique Calvin said.

The students did everything to keep warm during the school’s heating problem. Some students stayed home because of this issue, and the school later resorted to online school for Crete students. Everyone had different perspectives on how they saw this problem, but everyone knew one thing: it was cold!

“I became sick in less than two days! And then my family got sick, and I’m pretty sure it was because of me,” Dominique Calvin said.

Because of the drop in temperature, many students got sick, which caused most students to stay home.

This winter was a surprise to many students and staff. While this winter caused students and staff to adapt and find ways to cope with this weather, everyone was safe. When school started back up, the school fixed the heating problem.
