Social media has been in use for many years. Nearly 60.49 percent of the global population uses social media networks like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more, according to the network Statista.

Social media is very popular.

Some students The Warrior Times recently interviewed shared their thoughts towards social media and what it brings to their lives. These teens also stated things they would do if they experienced conflict or harassment on social media. These same students spend most of their time on social media platforms.

¨I am mostly on social media at least three to four hours a day, and I rarely have any problems with anybody,¨ Taylor Ohrt said.

While Ohrt said she hardly ever ran into any type of conflict or issues on social media platforms, Makayla Johnson said otherwise. She gave a solution to what she does to avoid conflict.

¨I am on Instagram at least 13 percent of my day. I think that social media hurts people’s mental state, and if I was to ever get in any type of conflict, I would just block the person,” Johnson said.

Blocking a person who consults into activity like online harassment and online bullying should always be accountable for their actions, and the person who is experiencing either the bullying or harassment should always tell a trusted adult about the situation so that their trusted adult or guardian would be informed and could step in at the right time and can come to a conclusion to make everything right again, another way to handle a problem is ignoring the message itself and still being able to consult a trusted adult about a particular situation that could be harmful to others or yourself.

Social media can also hurt your mental health in plenty of other ways, as this varies according to the type of person you are and what kind of things you tolerate and some things that you won’t tolerate.

Micah Townsend, ¨I think social media hurts my mental health because I would see sad things or start having insecurities since I would see very pretty girls,” Micah Townsend said.
