As Crete-Monee High School prepares for its upcoming spring play, students are sharing a range of expectations about the production and whether they plan to attend the performances.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy by William Shakespeare is, a play about love, confusion, and magic. When asked what came to mind when thinking about the school’s upcoming spring play, Jayla Nailer had an optimistic view of what to expect from her school’s performance.
“I think the play is going to be interesting and joyful,” Jayla Nailer said.
Nailer also said she plans to attend the Shakespeare-themed school’s spring play because of her personal connections with the school’s drama club.
"Yes, I'm planning on going to see it because I know a lot of people in the drama club,” Nailer said. Her friends are a big part of her wanting to attend school performances.
The play can also be a means for students to express their support for their peers. Jayla stated that having friends in the play is usually a factor that encourages her to attend.
“I just wanna go and get my input,” Nailer said. Based on her experience, Jayla stated that school plays were enjoyable, especially when small details were added. “They were good; they had a little concession stand, and a little snack to eat while I watched,” she added.
Destin Thorne, who is part of the play, called it magical and whimsical. “I start thinking about accents and stuff because it’s very magical,” Destin said. “It’s about fairies.” He believes the play will be fun and funny, and will feature many magical elements to bring it to life.
Since Destin is part of the play, watching the play is a must for him. “I’m in the play, so I will have no choice but to see it,” he said.
According to him, rehearsal plays a big part in preparing for the play, as drama students always try to be in character even outside school.
However, Destin believes that school plays are entertaining because students get to see their classmates from another perspective. Destin also stressed the value of student support.
“You should just support your peers in general,” Destin said.
As the school play approaches in the spring, students are still developing their ideas for what will make the school play memorable. Ranging from magical storytelling and touching performances to student support and dedication behind the scenes, the upcoming school play is sure to captivate its audience and showcase the hard work of Crete-Monee drama students.
