CMHS students are frustrated about buses coming late for pick-up time. The consequences of getting to school late are receiving tardies, being unable to get breakfast, and needing more instruction from the first-period teachers.

School busses wait outside for pick-ups. Students share their thoughts on busses arriving late.
The buses are causing a massive issue at Crete, as students share their thoughts on how to solve it.
Senior Mikayla McNutt says she takes the bus to school, and it’s supposed to come at 6:48 a.m., but sometimes the bus comes at 7:10 a.m., making her late.
“Some teachers don’t let you in even with the little bus slips,” said McNutt.
Being late has cons because she misses breakfast and first period. She feels that people should discuss this situation. In the winter, it is worse, and it becomes an everyday routine, said McNutt
Sophomore Chase Williams takes the bus every morning and it never comes on time.
“The bus is supposed to be there at 6:50 a.m., but the latest she picked us up was 7:35 a.m.,” said Williams.
Sometimes, the bus driver passes his stop to pick up other students. But there should be a school board meeting about late buses, said Williams
Freshman Madisyn Boston says he takes the bus, and his bus has been late multiple times. Sometimes, it drives past him even when he is on time.
“It’s terrible they need to get it together because it’s just cold. Some people are out there standing in the cold,” said Boston.
Boston said the bus is sometimes 30- 40 minutes late even when the pick-up time is 6:08.
Boston said that most of the time, if a bus is late to pick up, another driver is provided, but it isn’t good that it’s cold.
Sophomore Sarah Muehlberg said it’s annoying getting picked up late by the bus because she misses breakfast, but it’s nice because you have more time to get ready.
“It’s annoying sometimes. Like if you needed to go to a teacher in the morning, you can’t do that,” said Muehlberg.
Muehlberg said her bus driver is late to avoid morning traffic outside the school.
Most students say that this is out of their control and that the school board should address the issue.
Students believe being late is a problem and should be talked with the school board to ensure their education is put first.
President of the School Board, Mr. Maurice Brown, stated, “Yes, I agree that students missing their crucial morning school assigned meals because of school buses arriving late should not be an exclusive reason for being denied a meal. In addition, our staff should not further adversely affect our students due to no fault of theirs with the late arrival of school buses.”
The Transportation Coordinator, Kate Cooper, said, “Whenever there are delays, I promptly inform the high school administration as soon as I become aware of any issues. We appreciate your understanding and are committed to resolving these matters swiftly.”
