Students debate: Kendrick Drake?

On March 22, Metro Boomin and Future dropped the song “Like That,” featuring Kendrick Lamar. Fans were shocked when Lamar said, in quotes, “Mother --- the big three --- it’s just big me,” referring to fans calling Kendrick, Drake, and J. Cole the big three of rap.

To this, J. Cole responded with a diss track and later apologized for and deleted it. Drake released two disses, ‘TaylorMade Freestyle’ and’ Push-ups,’ which made fans wonder if Kendrick would respond.

On April 30, Lamar responded to Drake with a six-minute song that caused an uproar with its harsh accusations.

“I’m on Kendrick’s side; why would I be on Drake’s side after all the stuff that came out about him?” Student Ariyah Harvey said.

“I’m on Drake’s side because I’ve been a lifelong fan of him,” student Micheal Dula said.

Students seemed to know about what was happening with both of the artists.

“Yeah, all I know is that they are dissing each other, and Kendrick is exposing Drake for being a pedophile”, Student Lesley Garcia said.

Lots of students seemed to be informed about the situation between Lamar and Drake.

“Yeah, I know that Drake and Kendrick are beefing right now because of some allegations thrown out about them,” Student Niya Jefferson said.

Many songs have come out between the two artists and both have been hitting hard lyrically. Students were asked who they thought was winning by listening to the songs.

“I listened to Kendrick’s six-minute long song ‘Euphoria’ during third period, and it’s so good”, student Ariyah Harvey said.

“I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been a Drake fan for a while, but Kendrick is really spitting facts right now, so Kendrick”, Student Lesley Garcia said.

Students were asked who they listened to the most before the beef.

“Kendrick, I listened to Kendrick the most before they started beefing,” Student Isaac Valadez said.

“Kendrick because the allegations that came out about Drake were crazy,” Student Niya Jefferson said.

Students were asked about their favorite song during the entire rap battle.

“It’s between ‘Euphoria’ or ‘Not Like Us,’” student Isaac Valadez said.

“I think ‘Family Matters’ is my favorite song from Drake in this rap battle,” Student Micheal Dula said.

Fans speculate that this has been the biggest rap beef between two rap artists since Tupac and Biggie. 

“I think this will be something people reference back to when other artists have battles, and it will go down in rap history,” Student Niya Jefferson said.

It might just go down as the greatest rap beef in history. I think Drake and Kendrick are goats for doing something like this,” Student Micheal Dula said.

Students expressed their views on the beef and gave raw responses. This has been an intimate rap battle between Drake and Kendrick, with many personal things being brought up on both sides. Many fans speculate where this feud will lead the artists down the line in the rap industry.
