Many students showed their school spirit during homecoming week by dressing up as their favorite character or wearing all black, among other things.

Spirit week is designed to get students involved with one another and enjoy their time getting into the school spirit for the homecoming game on Friday, Oct 3.  Spirit week was created for students to ebrace their school spirit and have fun participating in dressing up. Spirit week began on Sept. 29 and concluded on Oct. 3, culminating in the football game and homecoming night on Oct. 4.

“I'm excited for spirit week because I like that the themes that were chosen for each day, and it gives us space to be creative and to really go all in,” senior Kimora Darby said. “Yes, I think spirit week is important in school, or else school would be mostly boring. There would be no personality, it would just be all bland and boring.”

The student government created the ideas behind Spirit Week. The choices were carefully picked to make them friendly and fun for the students of Crete.  The choices for the week were to wear all black on Monday, hero vs. villain on Tuesday, character day on Wednesday, decades day on Thursday, and wear blue and gold for our school colors on Friday.

“It was a district-made decision, and so the whole district came up with the themes, so that everyone can participate, and it can be friendly for everyone,” Senior class president Makyla Johnson said. “I love spirit week. I think it's very fun, and I feel like it adds something different to the everyday type of life cycle,” senior class president Makyla Johnson said.  Johnson said that she was most excited for character day because she loves dressing up and playing the character.

Spirit week was a success this year because many people got involved, even the Crete-Monee Facebook showed all the involvement and how it was a good spirit week. It also got people into the school spirit week, hyping everyone up for the pep rally on Friday, Oct. 4. Many people dressed up on Character Day, and people took numerous pictures of students and teachers.

“Spirit week is going really well.  I'm having a lot of fun because I like dressing up as a character and pretending to be them and making people laugh,” Johnson said.

Johnson picked to dress up as a character from the movie White Chicks because she said she “really likes the movie and thought she could fit the character well and make people laugh.”
