There have been many memorable moments throughout the school year at Crete Monee High School. As students wind down and finish their final papers and final projects, they look back on the year and look forward to summer.

From left to right: Seniors Kennedy Lawson, Katie Johnson, and Rhyen Robinson say goodbye to CMHS.
“I started high school during COVID, so my freshman year was online, and when I finally was able to go to school, there were a lot of rules that prevented people from really interacting with other people, which made it kind of hard to make friends. But when everything was kind of calming down, being in high school was decent until I had to take all those tests,” said senior Dominique Calvin.
Different students have opposing opinions on how their school year went. Some students started school during COVID-19, so their freshman year was taken away from them. Seniors have a lot to look back on, knowing that this year was their last year walking in the hall.
For the freshman, they might think differently, this being their first year. There are a lot of different opinions of high school so being a freshman and experiencing it for the first time and growing your thoughts and feelings about it is a magical experience.
“High school was pretty fun. It’s nothing like the movies, but if you have friends to make high school fun, then you should be fine,” said freshman Monte Calvin
Making memories is what comes with being in high school. Some memories can be good, and other memories can be bad. What you remember in high school can create a story you will later tell in the future. The memories with your friends, teachers, staff, and even just people walking through the halls can create a story you will later tell.
“During my freshman year, I remember when my friends and I would be at lunch together, and it was so fun, and everybody knew us,” said sophomore Kyla Smith.
Sitting back and recapping this school year and thinking about what made this year a memorable year, what made this year special, and what did you take away from this school year. Everyone has different things to say about their experience and how they would describe their school year. What you make of high school is what you will get. No one can shape your future but you.
“Finding new friends and potential people you’ll know for the rest of your life. High school is a good way to find good people but also bad people. It teaches you so much about people and also prepares you for life. This year was a year to remember because it opened my eyes and mind to so much that I couldn’t see before,” said senior Dominique.
Finding people who can help make high school a good experience is a great thing to do. People say high school goes by so fast. One day, you are just starting high school as a freshman, and next thing you know, you are taking your SAT, and then you’re saying goodbye to high school forever.
