Donating blood is a great way to save lives, but people’s opinions about donating blood or having their own blood drawn depend on how comfortable they are with it and how much they know about it.

Junior Kareem Nardi is very strong in support of donating blood.
“It's the right thing for me to do, because someone's life could be saved,” Nardi said.
Nardi said that hospitals cannot run without their own supply of blood, which is collected through donation. This shows that there is a need for blood in surgeries, injuries, and such emergencies, making donors crucial.
Another perspective is from James Robertson, who said the idea of drawing blood feels weird to him.
“Drawing blood is a skill that only doctors or nurses should have,” Robertson said.
Since the procedure carries risks, it should be performed only by trained professionals. This demonstrates his concern focuses on safety and the possibility of mistakes if an untrained person attempts the procedure.
Jemari Johnson, another freshman, says a positive viewpoint.
“If I knew for sure that my blood would be used for someone with the same blood type, then I would be willing to donate it,” Johnson said.
Some students were willing to help but wanted to make sure that their donation would directly benefit someone in need. This can show the importance of blood donation in healthcare cannot be overstated, because it gives people the chance to make a life-saving difference in the lives of others.
