Most students at the school believe there is no need for clear bag usage because they have metal detectors.

“I feel like they’re dumb and an invasion of privacy, especially since we already have metal detectors,” sophomore Briah Gordon said.
Gordon brought up metal detectors very often which shows that she thinks those help with safety way more than clear bags do.
“Keep the metal detectors and get rid of the clear bags,” Gordon said.
Gordon feels that we have clear bags mainly to prevent kids from bringing weapons, and metal detectors should solve that.
The students felt no need for clear bags since the school does have metal detectors at the entrance. They also don’t think clear bags help as much with safety as the school and administration think they do.
“Clear bags are an invasion of privacy and it puts many students at risk depending on what belongings they have in there,” sophomore Jonn Goodman said. Goodman gave us an example of a student having a very valuable item in an unattended bag, which could result in that student’s belongings being taken.
Some students said they had witnessed another student taking someone’s belongings out of their bag if it was left unattended.
“Females should at least be able to wear small non clear purses for their personal feminine products,” senior Christen Jones said.
Jones understands that small weapons can fit in the purse, but she also feels as if no female would use the purse for the usage of weapons. Jones also states that she feels very uncomfortable with everyone being about to see her personal items.
Many female students agree because they feel their privacy is most invaded.
`They gave many examples of females having to carry around feminine products and being embarrassed by someone seeing them.
“Athletes should be able to carry non clear bags and put them in their locker if it becomes an issue.” sophomore Melvin Saunders said.
Saunders plays football and thinks it would be way easier to grab his bag out of his locker rather than digging through a trash can full of bags at the end of the day.
According to Mykeal Coleman, some students aren’t able to fully express themselves due to their clear bags. Coleman states that many kids would like to express themselves through their bags, but they aren’t even able to do that.
