Conditioning is an excellent way to prepare for this year’s Crete Monee High School track season.

Track season is coming up, which means it's time to start conditioning.

On Dec. 11, there was a track meeting to learn about practices, what the coaches looked forward to, and the indoor season plans. After the meeting was a light practice, conditioning will be scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“This season for track, I’m looking forward to going to state for my sport,” senior David Fears said.

Other upperclassmen students who are involved with track were all excited and hyped for the upcoming season to achieve their goals better than they did last year and to improve on their performances to get scholarships.

“I think that the new class of freshmen will be a good addition to the track team. It’s a couple of people to look out for, for sure,” sophomore Tracy Kelisis said.

Most track workouts include ladder intervals, pushing the straightaways, or something to do with building muscle in the legs and abdomen. The track athletes wonder what kind of workouts they will do this year.

“In my opinion, in order to achieve what you want, you have to put in the hard work to get better. But the track workouts I heard are going to be more active, advanced, and different than they were last year at middle school,” freshman Maya Parker said.

There are many different events in track alone, like relays or single races, short or long distances.

Freshman indoor track will be a new experience since indoor track wasn’t an option at the middle school, so many don’t know what indoor track even is.

“In middle school, I ran the 4x200 and 4x400, but this year I don’t know what they’re going to put me in because I heard that the 100m is like the cut to 60m,” freshman Jayvien Pearson said.

Many seniors are talking about what sport they want to attend college and get scholarships for.

This year, Senior track runners are thinking about their PR times and ways to get scouted from colleges by going to state or making good impressions when on the track.

“Because it’s the seniors last year, I know a lot of us will show improvement and more seriousness when it comes to any type of practice or actual meets,” senior Jason Robinson said.

People are looking forward to the outdoor rather than indoor track season.

“Honestly, I think I run better outside when the wind is in my face when I run. It’s like I had more control and more air than like indoor season when I got to run indoors, and it’s all hot and everything because it’s a closed space and everybody is sweaty,” Hannah Smith said.

Since this is the seniors’ last year in high school, some people will look forward to the freshman class to replace some of the members and bring something new and fresh to the school’s sport.
