On Wednesday, Oct. 19, Crete-Monee High School held their 7 on 7 Powderpuff game. This flag football game puts the juniors against the seniors on separate teams.

The boy’s football team handled the coaching by picking some junior football players to coach the juniors and senior football players to coach the seniors. The referees were randomly selected by Mr. Fitzgerald.

“I feel that this is the worst Powderpuff game we’ve had,” said Mr. Fitzgerald.

Throughout the duration of the game, even though it was flag football there were still a lot of unnecessary hits. Even though some got hurt, players still enjoyed it.

“I feel as if the game should have been longer because we definitely would have won,” said De’Bre’Anne Chiles.

The game was cut short due to the girls not following the rules on the field. The game then ended in a tie 6-6. Adrianna scored for the juniors and Nikyla scored for the seniors.

“There was a lot of animosity and a lot of tackling on the senior side,” Said Chiles.

“I teach my DB’s to be tough and talk a lot,’ said coach and senior Edward Clark

Clark was one of the coaches on the seniors side of the game. He particularly focused on the defense. He admits to telling them to get physical and also the game consisted of a little vile language, showing the biased coaching.

“The coaches did a good job by getting their girls pumped up, but they didn't quite prepare them for flag football,” said Mr. Fitzgerald.

The girls looked as if they were preparing for a full game with helmets and pads.

“If we had to wear pads and play I would still do it,’ said Chiles.

The girls may have been safer with the pads considering the circumstances on the field. After senior Nikyla scored the game got cut short and made to college rules. This gave the juniors a chance to either tie up the game or walk off the field with a loss.

College rules grants the team a chance to score from the opposing 25-yard line. Junior Adrianna Wright was able to pull through on the second play of the drive to score and tie the game 6-6. The girls were not satisfied with the score but this is how things needed to end.
