The Warriors softball team started off the season with a loss against Manteno and Oak Forest. Then, they have been able to pick up the pace. With beating their next 2 teams by 10 plus runs.
“I like how the season is going but there is still a lot to work on, and I feel we are getting better,” said junior Skylar Welcome.
“I feel our biggest downfall may be our communication,” said junior Madison Tennicott.
The team is really turning it around with winning their next two games by 10 plus runs. This moved the Lady Warriors to a conference record of 3-0 (3 wins and zero losses) and an overall season record of 4-3 (4 wins and 3 losses) so far. A big impact for this warriors team comes from the coaching.
“The coaches are helping out a lot this year with finding the things we do wrong and tweaking it,” said Welcome.
The coaches are doing a good job turning around this team. Especially with every player stating that they would love to get very far in this year's season. Other players like Skylar Welcome are looking to work hard and make the all conference team for the second year in a row.
Majority of the softball team has been playing for a long time and each has someone to influence why they chose to take softball seriously.
“Someone I can look up to is my dad. He is the one that influenced me to play softball,” said Tennicott.
Other players were influenced by their moms or other siblings who took the same steps that they may be taking now in high school.
This softball team has a bright future considering each player was on the same track when asked questions. Each player also has a bright future for not only themselves but for the team to accomplish.
“Our goal is to have fun and become one as a team,” said junior Kimora Alexander.
Kimora is the Warriors left fielder. She loves this position even though she wasn't the one that chose it. Her coach made the final decision. The coaches do a very good job on putting their players where they believe they can have the most success.
The team has huge goals from winning and being number 1 in their conference to big goals like winning a state championship. For right now the lady Warriors are taking it game by game, so they can continue to make a name for themselves.
