Crete-Monee High School's basketball team was excited to start their season and had high hopes for a successful run. However, three weeks into the season, things have not been going as well as they had hoped.
“I think we’re going to shock a lot of people.” Said Head Coach Meyers, “People are underestimating us, which is what I like we’re going to surprise a lot of people.”
As the season began, the team was confident in their abilities and ready to take on their opponents. They gelled well together, giving them a boost of momentum and enthusiasm. However, they soon hit a rough patch and lost their next few games. Despite the losses, the team has not let their spirits falter.
“Take it one day at a time, we are in the toughest public high school conference with teams like Bloom Township, Kankakee, and Thornwood,” said Meyers.
The players and coaches have been working tirelessly in practice to address the areas where they have been struggling. They have been focusing on improving their defense and executing their plays more effectively on the court. The team has also been working on building chemistry and trust among the players, which they believe is key to their success.
“The relationships between me and the guys is always an amazing part of coaching. This is my 6th year coaching and we’ve had guys from past years come and train with the team. It's always refreshing to see.” said Meyers.
Despite their current record, the team remains optimistic and is determined to turn things around. They know that they are capable of playing better and are working hard to make that happen. They are confident that their hard work and determination will pay off and they will be able to bounce back and have a successful season.
“When motivated they have good work ethic, my job is to keep them on track. They have good heads on their shoulders,” said Meyers.
The team has received support from their school and community, who have been cheering them on and encouraging them to keep pushing forward. The players are grateful for the support and are determined to make their supporters proud.
“I believe that Crete will turn this season around, with Miles, Zion, and Tay there's no way they can’t.” said Freshman Mason Russell.
Overall, while the season has not started off as well as they had hoped, the Crete-Monee High School basketball team remains in high spirits and continues to work hard to improve their performance. They are determined to turn things around and have a successful season.
“They're cool and all, I feel like they play off the energy of the crowd,” Vontrez Banks a Junior said.
