For Cynthia Cairo, band is more than an elective. It’s a community.

“Finding a community that you belong in because, in a band, you meet new people and experience a lot of new things,” Cairo said.

Band can help others find who they truly want to be in the future. To see if someone can push themself into trying something new, you can put the effort into learning new careers.

“It wasn’t too hard. It was easy. He taught like baby steps, but going into high school, the sophomore year became a little more challenging, but as long as you work hard and you are motivated and have good determination,” Cairo said

It can also tap into your childhood and help evaluate new hobbies or beliefs about a subject. It also shows different ways that people can surpass their obstacles.

“I chose the clarinet because I watched SpongeBob, and in fifth grade, people would pick the clarinet because Squidward plays that, but after a while, it just felt like it was my voice, like that way of expression,” Cairo said.

Although band may seem complicated, those who are a part of it can tell others that there is nothing to fear about it. People like to learn slowly, people want to learn fast, and some like to follow the crowd.

Band can be for those who have loose schedules and those who have tight schedules. It can help someone arrange a life plan that can coordinate everything more.

“I have gotten to a nice routine of balancing my band schedule, work schedule, and my personal life,” Cairo said.

Band can demonstrate and illustrate more possible outcomes that can open up new opportunities, leading more Colleges to reach out to you.

There may be some challenges along the way, but it doesn’t stop people from pushing past their limits having different options for everyone’s liking.

“I wanna say, maybe, euphonium because it looks fun,” Pedro Salas said.

Some instruments can be similar to each other, and people find that very useful for that.

“I think I would pick either flute or maybe even French horn more, considering that it can get to the range of a clarinet,” Cairo said.

Band can give reasonable lessons that persuade students to try an instrument even when sometimes people don’t take it to heart.

“I believe we can work harder so we can make a more positive impact,” Cairo said.
