Boys' baseball improves in gameplay

With the Spring sports starting Boy’s Baseball have been doing a fairly good job with their record starting off strong overall 7-5 (7 wins and 5 losses) and their conference record being 3-1 (3 wins 1 losses).

The boys have been going at it at practice every day and being able to get good reps and good hits in.

“We started off the season a little shaky with a few losses, but now we are on the right track and are improving as our season goes on,” junior Vontrez Banks stated.

With a new coaching staff it sometimes can be hard to adjust but the boys this year are enjoying their new coaching staff and are excited for the rest of the season games.

Making new memories with the coaches as well as the team is very exciting and the boys are anxious to see how the season will end.

“This year we have a good coaching staff, coach Milburn has been helping us a lot with our hitting, and practices with the coaches have been going very well,” said senior Jermale Bailey.

Having new memories every season is always exciting for the guys because there are new players usually every year, so they can enjoy those times together with their old and also new teammates.

“Beating Kankakee this year on 4/3/2023 was very fun and exciting, so it made the bus ride back a lot more enjoyable, and we were lit so that’s a memory I will always cherish,” said sophomore Bren Milburn.

Every player has their role model they look up to and their motivation to play. Sometimes it’s themselves, or sometimes it’s a parent, aunt, grandpa, grandma, etc.

Vontrez and Jermale’s motivation is themselves, they’ve played since they were little and have always wanted to get better, so they push themselves to be the best they can. For Bren his motivation and the person he looks up to is his brother because he plays college baseball and is skillful.

Jermale Bailey is a pitcher, and he loves that position it is his main position, along with pitching though he also plays 3rd base. Bren Milburn is a shortstop and also pitcher he enjoys both positions because it is what he feels he is best at.

Vontrez Banks plays at 3rd base and 1st base for the most part though he is at 1st base, and he enjoys that position the most too because he feels that he can always help out the team and pick up a ball if needed.
