On Saturday,  February 7, Crete Monee High School hosted 18 schools throughout Illinois and some other states to host its annual spectacular show choir event.

¨One of the biggest parts of hosting a competition here is the connections that our students make with other schools and students. From meeting new people and doing what they love most (performing), you are surrounded by other students that are there for the exact same reason as you¨, said Ms. Myhre.

Diamond Moreno has been doing show choir for four years now, making this her last year performing in spectacular. Students work hard to practice dances and songs, staying on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30. Spectacular is a fun way to get the students prepared for competitions, and even though Crete doesn't get judge they always put on a performance and even did a parent preview on January 31.

¨

Show choir is important to me because I get to create a lot of friends, and it's a really great environment, and it gets you distracted if you're going through things. And it's just a positive environment to be around¨, Moreno said.

A show choir member named Sarah Muelburg has almost paid off all her money for being in the activity by just doing fundraisers. It requires a lot of determination and perseverance. When dedicating yourself to show choir, it can feel like a lot of money, but they offer many fundraisers like selling popcorn, krispy kreme donuts, and a blend above.

¨Show choir is really important to me because I've been singing my whole life, and I love moving around, and it's just fun to be on stage with all of my friends, said Sarah Muehlberg¨.

Spectacular is judged based on the students' performances, and the scores feed into the group's overall ranking. The spectacular performances will be in the main gym, where all the students from different schools will have a turn to get on stage and perform for the judges and other students.

Crete has been hosting spectacular events for 14 years now and has always been a success, Mr.Mohrr said.

¨We learn from other schools different techniques or tools to help us group as a group, but also for students to individually grow. When watching schools that have groups larger than ours, we can see how a show is crafted, choreography is cleaned, and how different vocal techniques or dynamics can shift the meaning of a song¨, Ms. Myhre said.
