Crete Monee High school's tennis team is an increasingly growing sport, with a record-breaking season so far. They have had an increase in the number of participants from the past. They are also doing fairly well throughout their time playing.

“A lot of our teammates are very hardworking, and I feel as though our sport can be more known if they see posters or flyers about tennis,” said senior Angelica Bluitt.

“Not many people want to play tennis because there are bigger sports, but the season is going good, nothing other than that,” said freshman Chanel Tafolla.

Tennis seems to go unrecognized compared to other major sports like football or soccer.

“Tennis is a very fun sport, competitive, and helps you make friends,” Bluitt said.

Bluitt was new to the school this year, but tennis has seemed to open up a good chapter for her. Friendships long-term or short term have blossomed over the love for one sport.

“Tennis isn’t cheap, as tennis players we have to buy our equipment, but I will say our coaches do help us improve by sending us videos on how to handle our rackets, a lot of practice, and to fix our technique,” Bluitt said.

“They give me constructive corrections and advice to help fix what I am doing wrong,” Tafolla said.

Crete’s tennis coaches provide an essential and positive area to grow and excel. This is great for the oncoming years as tennis can continue to increase its population of players.

“I'm nervous for the conference, or maybe excited, I felt as though we put in the work, and we are ready. I feel like these extra days will help us prepare for our showdown Thursday,” Bluitt said.

The freshmen team went to conference on Oct. 6. They competed against teams such as Plainfield, Rich, Kankakee.

“One of the teams we played was very aggressive with their hits, almost caught me off guard. It was a tough match, “ said Angelica Bluitt, Senior.

Sectionals come after conference, & these players are ready to give it their all.
