With Crete coming into this game 2-2 and Riverside being 4-1, this was a huge test and statement to the Southland Conference, letting them know they can compete with the best and overcome adversity.
“It just came naturally. They kept trying to attack me over the top, and it didn’t work,” said Tylin Brefford after having three picks, tying the state record for most picks in a single game.
Despite losing a lopsided 42-0 against the Kankakee Kays, the Warriors have made the playoffs and are ready to take their game to the next level.
“Going into the playoffs, we really gotta focus and not think about the other team and their record and what they have done in the regular season because the playoffs are just a new season. Everybody is 0-0,” Brefford said.
After losing to East St. Louis last year in the quarterfinals, the Warriors look to bounce back with a young team and a couple of seniors that are huge for them and are the foundation for the Warriors football team this season.
“We really gotta come together and get it done. It starts in practice because how you practice is how you play. Just gotta give effort and focus, then everything should come in place,” Jaden Hudson said.
Brefford has been playing both sides of the ball this season, and it seems to be working. After having three interceptions vs. Riverside, he helped stifle their offense.
“I feel like offense played good, but I played good too, But I feel like they should’ve let me score on offense,” said Brefford said.
