This past weekend the Crete-Monee Warriors took a big win vs undefeated Simeon Wolverines. Not many people believed in them and thought they were going to win, but despite what people had to say and their opinions the Warriors came out with a huge win.
Kendall Taggart (senior), Joshua Franklin (senior), and Cory Stennis (senior) all agreed that having the odds against them gave them so much more motivation and confidence to play.
“I felt as if this wasn’t anything new like we felt the odds were against us for the JCA game. Everyone thought we were going to lose that game and the Kankakee game, so I felt like we just had to prove everyone wrong,” Stennis stated.
“I like when people doubt us and when the odds are against us, it makes us play harder,” Franklin said.
Going into the game the players had to have a mentality that they were going to win because that can be a big confidence booster.
“I feel like we were well-prepared heading into the game going to beat Simeon,” Taggart said.
“Yes I was confident in my team I knew it was going to be a tough battle though,” Stennis also said.
By halftime the Crete-Monee Warriors were up 7-6. Taggart and Stennis were asked what they think the turning point of the game was.
“Coach said he still had confidence in the game, and we were right where we wanted to be,” Taggart stated.
“I think the turning point at the half was just us wanting it more and coming together as a team,” Stennis said.
The scoreboard was at 19-12 Crete on top with 7 mins left on the clock in the 4th quarter when Joshua Franklin faked a punt and scored his 100 yard touchdown.
“I feel like my turning point in the game was when I scored a 100 yard touchdown because it was just so unexpected, and it killed their spirit,” Franklin stated.
“It was the craziest thing I saw in football. From there on the whole team got hyped, and it only went up after that,” Stennis said.
The game ended with the score being 35-12.
“At first I didn’t expect it to be a blowout but as we were in the game I wanted to score as many points as possible,” Stennis stated.
Franklin and Taggart also both agreed that being under the pressure as the “weaker” team they knew what had to be done.
