Even though not everyone wore a mask to hide behind, homecoming 2019 still had the Masquerade theme.
The students that had come to enjoy the dance wore their dresses or suits. Not everyone danced, but everyone had fun with their friends.
Masks leaned against the basketball hoops, and a sparkling jeweled curtain surrounded a high hanging disco ball. Props and planning were done by none other than the drama team.
To keep with the theme, they referenced a popular musical called the Phantom of the Opera where the Phantom wears a mask to hide half his face.
There was also a dance number called “Tempo.” The original song used was called
“Masquerade” from The Phantom of the Opera, but the version used was from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
“For that number, we had three, one-hour rehearsals. One of them being in the morning of the homecoming dance,” said Nala Johnson, who was one of the dancers that performed.
Even though some students stressed over the amount of time given to complete everything, they enjoyed working with their friends.
Paint splattered, people made some mistakes, but they treasured the time all the same.
“Creating the props took about three weeks. It was fairly easy if you followed the directions, and didn’t slack off during the process,” said Farrah Robinson, who worked on the props.
Some people in Crete talked with the members of the Art Club, who painted the windows of local stores and restaurants. Some used chalk to decorate the chalkboard at The Edge.
They shared their thoughts, saying that they believed in the football team. They thought Thornton would lose, which became true later that night on Sept. 20.
