Kayla McWilliams, varsity captain Jada Portis, and Amaria Cooks spoke on their experience thus far in cheering for Crete-Monee.
All of the ladies said that something they would change about the uniform would be the length and the tightness of the skirts.
“The cheer routines are perky,’’ McWilliams said. The ladies say that the routines are easy and sometimes they are hard.
Freshman Amaria Cooks says she is planning on doing cheer for the rest of high school. Senior Jada Portis said that she is planning on staying on the cheer team.
Kayla McWilliams, on the other hand, is not planning on staying, as she is planning on joining the dance team next year.
She said that she wants to try something new. The ladies said that the coaches are doing a really good job this year.
“I feel like we accomplished a lot, like we have improved a lot from the previous years, like commitment and stronger motions,‘’ Portis said. If Kayla was not doing cheer right now, she said she would be doing dance.
If Jada was not doing cheer, she said she would be doing track and Amaria would be playing girls’ basketball. Something that made Amaria want to join cheer is ever since she was little, she watched the girls cheer on TV, and she wanted to join it. So, this was her year she was going to do it. The same thing was true for Jada, but she joined freshman year and has been on the cheer team ever since.
Kayla wanted to try something new, so she joined in the summer. So to me it sounds like cheer is a good sport to play when you want to do an activity. The coaches treat you well, and the routines are good.
Now that football season is over, watch for the girls on the side of the basketball nets cheering on your Warriors.
