Any team that can just move past conflicts is a great team, and they are a true family.
Mariah Marbury, Ximena Aguilar, Jamelia Williams-Elis and Jaden Chavers all have expressed what they focused on, and how they prepared for the 2019 season.
“I feel ready sometimes, but also nervous other times,” said freshman Mariah Marbury.
Mariah played volleyball before in seventh and eighth grade, and was ready at games because she had either played the teams before or saw how they play. Yet, at some games she said she felt nervous because she did not know how they played, or if they were even going to win.
“We just move past the situation,” Marbury said, when referring to how she believes the team gets over situations.
Mariah said that even though they have fights, arguments, and disputes, they talk and move past everything, and they start to feel like family again. Together, they try their hardest at games and on the court. She said that when they are at games they stick up for each other.
“Mentally, I tell myself positive things,” Marbury said, when referring to how she prepares for games.
“I thought it was going to be hard [to make the team],” Aguilar said.
Aguilar said that many of the players were really good, and she thought that there was no way she could make it as a freshman.
Xiemna says she mostly focused on that her serves made it over the net, and that she was mentally prepared when she stepped onto the court. She said that it was a better opportunity for her to improve her skills and for her to learn from other girls that were more experienced at volleyball.
Williams-Ellis felt like they need to work on communication because it is the the key to a successful team and to many wins. She said that she focused on things that she works on in practice, and that she has gotten better at the things she can use in the game.
Chavers said that her intimidation level going into game all depends on how big the other team is and how good the other team plays. She focused on making sure that her serves made it over the net and that she made smart sets.
