From grading papers to choosing centerpieces, teachers at Crete-Monee High School are trading lesson plans for prom plans this spring. Prom is a place for seniors and/or juniors to have their final party before they depart and graduate from high school.

While teens get their dresses and corsages, Ms. Myhre and Ms. O'Sullivan plan the night that all the seniors will remember for the rest of their lives.
"The first step in planning a prom is establishing the date and finding a venue to host the prom," Myhre said.
Some people might think Prom is a one-and-done deal for the people planning it, but in the real world, it takes time and effort to plan something so big for students.
"There is a lot of time and work that goes into planning such a large and important event. There are many hours of meetings, phone calls, touring the venues, and many other things that go into planning this big day," Myhre said.
As seniors and some juniors prepare for Prom, they might wonder what dress or suit to wear. That's why having a theme for a prom is the most important part, and being able to help choose is always a fun time.
While most students look forward to prom night, few realize just how much planning, coordination, and behind-the-scenes effort it takes to make the event a success.
"The senior class will have a meeting in early January. At that meeting, they will discuss different prom themes and ultimately come up with a theme they like. Once they have the theme, they will go to Mr. Holifield for approval." Myhre said
With the theme in place, the next decisions—choosing the venue, selecting the music, and finalizing the decorations—began shaping the prom night vision.
"The venue is chosen by size and date availability. Normally, we book a venue that can hold around 400 people. We send out a Google form for the music and have students give song suggestions. Decorations are bought based on the theme of the Prom," Myhre explained.
Though it may seem like just one magical night, Prom results from months of hard work, creativity, and dedication. As the music fades and the lights dim, the memories made at Crete-Monee High School are a testament to everyone who worked to make this night magical.
