During Spirit Week, teachers and students alike dress up in fun attire; seeing teachers participate, watching the dance team and cheer team perform, and taking part in the fun games are great examples of those memorable moments. When students are given the opportunity to be creative and dress playfully, it allows them to feel valued, giving a sense of belonging and an opportunity to be creative.

For homecoming, students have many different selections to dress as throughout the week, with each day having its own special theme, such as Minion Monday, Zoom Day, Fan-tastic Day, Teen Beach Movie Day, and All of the Lights Day.

“I have seen firsthand that Spirit Week not only brings students together and makes school fun, but, importantly, makes students want to come to school so people can see their outfits and their peers' outfits,” student government leader Terrell Henderson said.

Henderson further stated that being on the inside of planning Spirit Week was a nice experience, as well as seeing all of the positive effects of when students are given an opportunity to express themselves by coming together and wearing fun outfits with friends.

“Well, since I am a senior and have been on the inside of Spirit Week planning, I know sometimes things don't go the way you think and plan, which can lead to having to choose a whole new idea and concept. I'm interested in seeing how they plan new and fresh ideas/concepts,” Henderson said.

Creating different ideas keeps students excited and joyful during Spirit Week.

“Spirit Week promotes belongingness, school spirit, and positivity all in a short duration. It also allows students across the school district to express creativity, which is always fantastic and exciting!” Ralph Mallory said.

“[I loved] Minion Monday! I loved seeing the participation and the creative ways people incorporated being a minion!” stated Terrell Henderson.

Incorporating fun days such as this one allows you to see other people's creativity and perspectives on all the different themes.

“The first thing I'm looking forward to is the football game. Homecoming Spirit Week, you get to do a lot of different things, like the different pep rallies we have; all the games and events bring out the joy within the school and within the students,” Jayden Franklin said.

For some students, the most exciting part of homecoming Spirit Week is the football games and pep rallies, where students can play different games and see performances from the color guard, band, and cheer and dance teams, not to mention the homecoming court announcement. Spirit week brings laughter and helps students feel heard, seen, and accepted for who they are, without judgment.
