Students of the Month are given to many different students for doing an outstanding job at Crete-Monee High School.

“It was really shocking at first, because out of all my four years, I have never been picked for student of the month. It was just kinda a relief, and it felt good you know?” said Kyra Harper, who was nominated for the month of September.

Kyra is a senior and is involved in PBIS, Snowball, NHS, Ignition, and varsity volleyball. She was nominated by Mrs. Werner.

Harper was nominated for having a strong work ethic and maintaining a super positive attitude. Harper is also very genuine and respectful when it comes to her peers and staff.

Student of the Month is mostly given to students who have shown responsibility and respect in or out of school. Students should also display improvement not just in their work, but in their attitude and inner self.

Coy Hampton was also nominated for Student of the Month for September. He is also a senior, who is in football and basketball.

“If the opportunity comes back around, I think I can get it again,” said Hampton.

Hampton was nominated by Ms. O’Sullivan for being a natural leader in class and having excellent participation in discussions. Also Hampton is always on task and willing to help peers and staff.

Coy believes if you work hard, you can really get anything that you truly desire. Certainly in school, doing your best and not giving up is what it really takes.

Nominee Senior Jaylen Bryant has a lot to do with pretty much anything we do in school. He is involved in Ignition, drama, show choir, NHS, and student government.

“Mr. Fitz nominated me. I was awarded because I try to take charge in Ignition class, and I try to help keep stuff organized, come up with new games, new activities for our freshman. I just try to stay involved a lot and that’s why I was nominated,” Bryant said.

Jaylen said if he nominated someone for Student of the Month, it would be Aaliyah Thomas.

“Aaliyah Thomas works really hard, she’s basically not a mini me, but she does stuff to help for the better environment of the school,” Bryant said.

Counselor Mr. Wilson nominated Dakhari Johnson, who is involved in Ignition, Snowball Club and basketball. Johnson is described as a great role model for the youth to emulate. He excels both in and out of the classroom and has been accepted into many different colleges already. He also is deciding to keep his career in basketball going.

The names of the other students who were chosen for student of the month were Zoe Van Zyl, Andrew Weinert, Kimberly Haslett, Octavius Johnson, Josh Lecik, Denaisha Penman, Kaitlyn Murphy, Jasmine Smith, Jordan Helsel, Brendasia Meadows, and Tay Massie.

All of these talented seniors were picked for having a positive impact in our community. They have had a positive impact on our school environment and have helped many.

All of these students have something they look forward to into life. Every single one of these students were chosen for being a natural leader and just taking the lead in and out of class. These students have the traits of being responsible, motivated, passionate and positive.

Receiving Student of the Month is one of many great ways that teachers show just how much they truly appreciate their students and how they really respect them. This is meant to promote success in and out of the classroom.
